Welcome to the website of Hippeastrum Breeding B.V.

This company specialized in hybridizing and breeding new Hippeastrum varieties, was founded in 2000 by Andre Barnhoorn formerly director "Research and Development" of a renowned Hippeastrum nursery in South Africa.

At our nursery situated in the centre of the Dutch bulb growing area selected new varieties are tested over a period of several years before being released for commercial purposes.

Certain selected cultivars are for sale exclusively. The cultivars may be vieved during our open days in April by appointment.

To suit the specific needs of the individual grower or trader we have defined five different groups in our breeding programme. The formula of characteristics in each group enables us to hybridize towards a specific goal.

Group 1: Symphony        - flower diameter >14 cm.

Group 2: Sonata              - flower diameter between 9 and 14 cm

Group 3: Sonatini            - flower diameter < 9 cm.

Group 4: Trumpet            - trumpet shaped flowers.

Group 5: Cybister            - Orchid- or spider shaped flowers
